Siheung, promoted to the city status in 1989, is adjoining with Bucheon to the north, and Gwangmyeong and Anyang to the east, and Incheon and the West Sea to the west.

Siheung, located in the metropolitan area, is equipped with various industrial facilities related to Siwha Industrial Complex, which has played a central role in the industrialization of Korea’s west coast. This makes Siheung to have industrial competitiveness and unlimited future potentials. In 2006 alone, Siheung’s trade volume amounted to US$4,463 Mil. with US$2,085Mil. in export.

Siheung meets requirements to become a core city during the coming era of West Coast and high-tech city because it possesses such a diverse environment together as electronic communication, internet, and traditional manufacturing.

Siheung has accelerated the improvement of industrial structure ideal for the 21st century, when information technology plays a leading role. In addition, in order to make a self-sustaining city, Siheung devotes itself to attracting high-tech industries.

Merely not satisfied with the current status, Siheung works to upgrade itself into a high-tech, culture, leisure and tourist city through the development of huge land available. Also, Siheung plans to build a large-scale facility in the planned reclamation land in Siwha so that it could play a major role as a key point for sea, land, and air transportation.
